This is kind of a double post from the newbie forum, so sorry up front but after a little response I figured out it's really a receiver specific problem.
The problem is whith my directv. It works perfectly with true DD 5.1 signals and the receiver switches to Dolby dital on it's own. The problem comes when I switch to a non-DD channel, the receiver sets the surround mode to Off leaving just the front 2 speakers active. I would think you'd want non-DD signals being processed with Pro-Logic II so I figure I have something set up wrong.
Can anyone shed some light on this little problem?
Here's a link to the Manual, which is sorely laking IMO.

Well I just got a response back from HK tech support here is the entire email including my orginal email for reference sake. Bottom line we're SOL
Hi Bryon,
I'm sorry but, with non-Dolby digital signals, the AVR125 would
default to Surround Off.

I've hooked up the optical audio for my directv receiver. It works great
for Dolby Digital signals and switches approiatly. The problem comes when
I switch to a non-Digital signal station. The receiver switches to "Surr
Off" mode. I would think I'd want it to switch to Pro Logic II or some
other processing not switch off surround completely. I'm guessing I'm
missing an option in setting this up. Could I either get how to correct
this or just let me know that this is intentional and no way of fixing it.
Thanks
