I need to buy a separate receiver just for SACD/DVD-A playback. I want a solid analog bypass and good amps for 5.1-ch hi-res outputs. I am debating over Harman Kardon 125 and Onkyo 501.

Any advice?

as long as they have the inputs and power you're looking for, it's just a matter of which one sounds the best to YOU. If you prefer one over the other for dvd or regular cd sound, you'll probably like that one for dvd-a and sacd also. I'm not familiar with either, so I can't really say anything more than that........

I would listen to Denon. I have a AVR3300, and the sound with just stereo SCAD is incredible. Good speakers help too.
