More than a few of the SA leadership were gay.

Actually the "facts" behind that are mostly taken from a book of religious right propaganda called "The Pink Swastika". Hitler had it in for gays as much as Jews, Gypsys, Polacks and al the rest.

I don't see how this is true since in 1917 the Communist Revolution happened in Russia and they pulled out of WWI, leaving only the western front as the main battlefield.

Still, fighting a two front war drained and bled Germany. Hitler was critical of the German leaders in WWI. He saw a solution to the fact that Germany was surrounded by historical enemies. He proposed that Germany acquire Lebensraum. The land east of Germany up to the Leningrad Stalingrad line would be depopulated of the peoples living there and in time "colonized" by Aryan Germans. In a hundred year or so there would be a Germany of 250 Million or more. No Russia to the east would ever be a threat, France and Great Britain would never be able to threaten Germany again.

It seems that the groups Hitler hated were chosen because they would serve the political need to dehumanize them. Once they were reduced to the "subhuman" status, then he could justify any means to eliminate them. Poles and Russians were often depicted in Nazi propaganda just before and during the war as degenerate and subhuman races. Conquering Poland and Russia was not enough. Hitler had the need to move or kill these people before his Aryans could move in.

Hitler's blueprint was pretty much laid out in Mein Kampf. I don't subscribe to the historians who believe his decision to turn on Russia was impulsive, or done because he couldn't defeat Britain, or he hated Communists. His ideas were logical and well though out. They were also egomanical and the product of a disturbed individual.

True but he looked the other way when he felt like it.
