Historian and author David McCullough has passed away at age 89. I know him best when he appeared and narrated many PBS documentaries like Huey Long, The Civil War, Coney Island, Napoleon, Seabiscuit and many others. Rest in Peace.

A wonderful writer. Enjoyed several of his books, including his epic biography of Harry Truman, as well as his epic history of The Brooklyn Bridge.

On the PBS American Experience The Presidents series the episode he did on Harry Truman was excellent and one of my favorite documentaries.

My favorite memory of him is from around a decade ago when "60 Minutes" followed him to Paris on one of his book tours. The American ambassador at the time held a reception for him. One of his admirers in attendance prompted him to run up to podium and exclaim ebullently, eyes wide with starstruck amazement: "I just kissed Olivia de Havilland!" And then he pumped his fists in the air.

The Gone with the Wind actress was in her late nineties at that point, and as elegant as ever.

Sorry to read about this. What a beautiful speaking voice this man had.

One of the PBS greats! He will be missed.

Superb author. I have read many of his books. Just finished The Wright Brothers and The Panama Canal.
