I used to argue that they could remix albums properly, putting them in 5.1 by simply putting each individual instrument in a speaker channel

Why not?
If you’re gonna put it in 5.1, make it worth it.
A lot of Diana Krall's surround mixes are done just like that. Piano, guitar, bass, drums all predominately in separate channels. She's a particular favorite of mine.

I’ve always seen her name when looking at SACD’s
Classical, correct?
She seems to have a really big following. I don’t have any of her stuff that I’ve never heard it.

I think and I might be wrong, because I did not get into the doors until Oliver Stone made the film and I saw it in 70 mm at a local theater. That is of course no longer there.
The cinema 150 in Syosset, New York

I was 16 or 17 at the time

I bought the soundtrack and then bought the greatest hits

Rest in peace, Val Kilmer, beautiful soul

The version of "Light My Fire" in the movie soundtrack, sounded like the common one in A-flat minor from vinyl and cd versions from the 70s through the early 2000s. (I have never encountered an original vinyl pressing from the late 1960s).

I first hear the Doors in the early 1980s from an older relative, when this person was playing Riders on the Storm really loud. I asked to hear the song again. Later this relative also played other Doors records, such as the debut.

I also first heard Thin Lizzy at this same place, where this relative gave me a 7" vinyl of "Boys Are Back In Town" which I played repeatedly when I got home.

Diana Krall is more of a Jazz singer. But she did record an album of standards which is my personal favorite of hers. Released almost 25 years ago.

Nice, i’m going to hunt down some of her stuff.

I love singers and standards, Harry Connick Jr.

I wish they would do some justice to the when Harry Met Sally soundtrack, which is just a masterpiece

His voice is velvet, I will need to hear Diana. In 5.1.

Thank you for the tip

I'm so entrenched in The Doors music now that I don't recall the soundtrack clearly anymore.

Except...
that Val Kilmer was scary good singing like Jim...until Break On Through...

Val would not sing the chorus full on,
"But can you still recall
The time we cried?"
And instead of singing, in the same vocal register…
He would bring the chorus down a few notes...
"Break on through to the other side"
See video below:

Sonically it threw me.
Because it sounded like vocally Val could go there, but he simply would not except for one scene I believe.

THIS arrived from Amazon today. Today is release day.

In a word, fantastic.

I am a fan of aggressive surround mixes. While some surround mixes attempt to create a concert hall experience with the musicians in the front and ambient sounds in the surrounds, I subscribe to the notion of The Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart who says he like to put instruments in each speaker in a surround mix to give the listener the impression that he's on-stage with the band. And this release delivers that. Clean and immersive.

Makes me feel old that this music is 55 years old.
I just got this today. Steve Wilson does excellent work on remixes. Highly recommended for early Chicago fans.

Personally, I'd recommend Diana Krall's All for You--her tribute to the King Cole Trio. But I prefer her more jazz-oriented fare. Available on HD Tracks.
Ok.
I had an album it turns out.
Wallflower

I remember this now, I heard one of the tracks and I got the album because it was all covers. Grabbed it from HD tracks back in the day.

I also remember the girl in the other room

I listen to on Apple all for you

Let me tell you something…
This is smooth, elegant, pristine, sounding music. She has a wonderful understated voice and her band are potent than recorded and mastered so well in the final mixes.

You can hear every note, every tremble of her voice.

Little treasure… Mike thanks again. I'm loving this and this album is fantastic. Wallflower wow

Almost every song in this album is one of my favorites

The album cover SHOULD look like this! (Lucky Elvis Costello!) :D

But it's the music that counts!

The surround mixes on her live video releases (Rio & Paris) are also done really well. In Rio, there's a point where she lets the crowd sing The Girl from Impanema in the local language and she stops singing and just plays along. Beautiful.

A lot of her stuff is kind of in the light/pop jazz realm. However, if you want an excellent jazz ensemble choice, her Live in Paris concert video and recording is outstanding.

For more original material, I would recommend The Girl in the Other Room. Her husband -- Elvis Costello - wrote a few of the songs. I love Diana Krall. She has some concert DVD/BDs that are quite good, too. Live at the Montreal Jazz Festival and Live in Paris are two particular favorites.

Edit: I see that others already mentioned some of these titles. Sorry -- I've been out of town for a few days and am just catching up.

I'm going to have to give your question about three favorite discs a good think as there are so many...

But the one that now gets top billing from me is:

Just phenomenal audio (and video).
One 4K disc that tops this one is Talking Heads Stop Making Sense.

We try to kick back and have a few drinks and watch a concert disc every Saturday. We have amassed quite a collection, and have even gone back to buying DVD's of shows not available in Blu-ray or 4k. We appreciate the video quality as much as we can, but really like to crank up the volume on the good ones. Below, I will list our recent purchases we enjoyed immensely, and we have run out of new 4k releases to purchase.
We own every Joe Bonamassa Blu-ray release, (20+ titles, various venues around the world).
Black Sabbath - The End 4k
Pink Floyd at Pompeii BR
Chicago IX Greatest Hits BR (we already have the Chicago Quadio set) - Dolby Atmos
Purple Rain BR - DA
Elton John + Brndi Carlile BR DA
Jackson Brown-I'll Do Anything BR
Foghat-Slow Ride-Live BR
Bob James Trio 4k (more of a studio recording session)
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers From Gatorville DVD
Bad Company-Live at Red Rocks DVD
S&M Metallica BR
Paul Rogers-Live In Glasgow BR
UFO: Showtime BR
Scorpions Unplugged in Athens BR (really shockingly impressive)
John Mellancamp-Plain Spoke BR
Our most recent replay this past weekend was Earth Wind & Fire/Chicago-Live At The Greek BR (nearly 3 hours)
(We also love the Doobie Brothers Quadio set, and the Eric Clapton, INXS, and Chicago 4k's.)
