Hey Jeff
OK, check this out if you have a chance

This is my mix of Brothers In Arms which I made 15 years ago and then refined last year

These were taken from the 5.1 stems off the SACD. (the photos are mine, in the video… As I needed a video to justify putting the song up.)

let me know your thoughts

We finally received the disc from SDE. We listened to the instrument-only, (no vocals), Saturday, and it was everything we had hoped for. It was a little strange not hearing any vocals, but it was great.

Alright alright!!

Long story short, I bought the Sony and just threw in my DVD A of Queen The Game. This is one of the first albums I purchased when I was a kid (obviously not the DVD A, the actual record) and I am very familiar with it, having owned it through many different iterations including the MFSL Gold version.

Let me just say "Holy crap!!" There is detail and subtlety here that I have never experienced. I just gave this a cursory listen and could not believe the level of detail I am hearing. I have listened to this disk many times in, I guess Dolby Surround, not sure exactly how an older blu ray would pick up the audio, but this is something completely different. I had no idea I was missing THIS. Freddy's voice in all its glory, the decay on cymbals, on and on it goes. And all this from a quick listen. I can't wait to take a deep dive into this.

I guess I now have to revisit my entire DVD A collection, since apparently I have never heard them before.

I have to say, I am pretty excited by the prospect here. I think I have about 10 of them, maybe more. I can't believe they might all sound this good?!?!

How very cool. Thank you soooo much for creating this thread or else I may never have even considered revisiting them or even questioning whether they would work or not. They would have just sat collecting dust like some other red colored box I have on my shelf...

Yo Dave, oh my God that’s great…You got the player!
I’m so happy for you, just reading your words conveys how happy you are with all of the nuances you’re hearing

just like NEO in THE MATRIX…You just took the red pill,

“ I can only show you the door, you have to walk through it.”

And you did!!

Please get us feedback on your thoughts on all the DVD audio discs you rediscover and let us know what you think.

When I look at that screenshot, just seeing the “96/24 6.6 MBPS”

6.6 MB per second

Basically you’re listening to music that has six times the sonic information, the resolution, of a regular CD now.
Normal CDs playback at approximately 1.6 mbps…mp3 is approximately 192 kbps (a fraction of the audio info on a CD)

With High Resolution audio, you are hearing so much more of the sonic information from the master recording than a cd can deliver. .

Question :
On THE GAME DVD AUDIO disc, are Freddie Mercurys vocals coming directly out of The Center channel in this mix?
Let me know, sometimes when they mix in 5.1… They don’t put the vocals through The Center channel.

So I am hoping that they did that with the game because then you are hearing Freddie Mercury‘s voice isolated, with all of the beautiful nuances in his voice,

From what I’m reading, it sounds like you’re loving this, and that makes my heart sing,

I can’t wait to read more Dave
Congratulations! Sincerely, so happy for you

Tell us more of what you’re thinking!!

High resolution audio! Hallelujah!
The only problem now is once you’ve heard music in high resolution, you’re going to want to hear everything you love in high resolution,
And you will become an audiophile like many of us here are.

It’s not really a problem it’s just that they don’t put out as much as I wish they did in high resolution, but they are doing more and more now

Brother, tell us more the more that you listen and congratulations again!!!!!

I haven’t listened to that track yet, because I love the vocals so much but I’m going to have to give it a shot after what you’ve written here. Hey have you listened to the Dolby Atmos version yet and did you get a chance to listen to the version of “brother in arms” I created?

let us know what you think and congratulations on getting the desk. It really is beautiful for such an amazing album.
it’s a pinnacle, a perfect album from the first song to the last.

Yes. It sounded great on my computer.

Now, I am back to pursuing the Elton John Diamonds BR, which sold-out on SDE so quickly.

Curious, besides MFSL is anyone currently producing SACD?

Since I now have the capability and I really like MFSL, I purchased 3 SACD, WACF, Fair Warning by VH and Billy Joel The Stranger (which I have never owned in any format).

Listened to The Game again and really loved it in both 5.1 and 2.0. You asked if Freddie was front and center in the center channel and the answer is a resounding Yes for the vast majority of it. I am having the mid repaired on my Right Channel Paradigm 100 v5 currently so the system is slightly compromised but for the most part they do keep Freddie alone in the center and then zip his voice around the room for effect. The 5.1 mix is quite lively and a lot of fun. As I understand it, Brian May was instrumental in the creation of the 5.1 mix or had final say or something like that so I have to think the whole recoding is Queen approved.

Once I get the mid back from the repair shop, I intend to have a really god sit down with the High Res version of the Game and the MFSL gold CD version.

IN case you are curious, here is the list of the disks I own in High Resolution currently:

Queen the Game DVD-A
Queen - A night at the Opera DVD-A
Stone Temple Pilots STP DVD-A
Inside the Music - Women on top DVD-A
Metallica - The Black Album - DVD-A
Foreigner 4 - DVD-A
Elvis 30 #1 Hits DVD-A
AC DC Back in Black - Dual Disk
Ozzy - Under cover - Dual Disk
Pearl Jam Dark Matter _ Blu Ray audio
Rolling Stones Hackney Diamonds - Atmos Mix
Black Sabbath Paranoid Blu Ray Quadio Mix

yes, you have a couple of different options producing super audio CDs
The last few I bought were Rage Against The Machine, debut album and sophomore album evil empire it was released from label audio Fidelity, which I got off of Amazon

it's rockin

but I am noticing that more high resolution titles I've been coming out via Blu-ray, a lot of older great classical titles are available on super audio CD but they're not seeing as many produced anymore. Besides like you said Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, which is the crème de la crème.

by the way, did you hear Bohemian yet in 5.1? You got a great list there. Also, I l mean to say that the Rage Against The Machine
Sacd’s

not great
Way too much HISS
they are not in multi channel, which is fine, but I was hoping for more of a punch
There is definitely more detail but again now there is 30% hiss on the albums that is distracting

I don’t recommend them.
The CDs are the way to go in this matter, and RATM is one of my favorite bands, so it’s hard to say that, but it’s the truth

Just got back into listening to what I've collected since the beginning of DVD-A. Nice to see that others are also still interested in this format. I've heard rumors that The Beatles Anthology is going to be remastered and there may be some enhanced tracks on the Audio side. Has anyone else heard this rumor?

I got in the mail today a newly released title (released July 4, 2025): "Circus Life" by Tarja. Previously I didn't know it came with a bluray disc.

Originally I thought it was just a 2-disc cd set, of a live concert from early 2020 (before the pandemic) in Bucharest, Romania. I have seen some clips from this concert previously on youtube, which I thought sound better than the original studio versions. (I always thought Tarja Turunen singing sounded more "stilted" in the studio).

The bluray is a video of the live concert, where they mentioned it is all raw live with no studio overdubbing nor other audio trickery. I have not figured out how extensively it was mixed for 5.1 surround.
