    Look.

The first image is from the french, widescreen, UNCUT edition of SPIRITUAL KUNG FU.

The second is from the cropped, fullscreen one from Columbia.

    Quite a difference, huh?

    The real question is...

Why didn't Columbia/Tristar use a widescreen print for their DVD of Spiritual Kung Fu? As well as several other early Chan titles they released in pan and scan? And then there's Shaolin Wooden Men, which is a cut-down widescreen (1:85) but the print is so blurry it's hard to follow the action.

And then there are Columbia's lousy (if anamorphic widescreen) transfers of Fearless Hyena and Miracles... Miracles has to be the worst anamorphic transfer I've ever seen, and what a shame, because it's such a gorgeous movie.

So where does one go to order the French DVD of Spiritual Kung Fu? Merci beaucoup! I've never seen a kung fu movie in French [IMG] ... is the dialogue as bad as the English dubs? [IMG]

    >This one is DRAGON FIST, *uncut* and widescreen...

Woah, really? I have the Columbia/Tristar DVD, which is widescreen but cut... and a VHS tape which is uncut but in horrible pan and scan. (The Region 2 Eastern Legends DVD is advertised at 90 mins, which led me to think it was uncut, but it's a LIE... it's only 70 something minutes long, cut and dubbed into English, to boot.)

But the French DVDs are non-anamorphic transfers? Quel dommage. But still, better than pan and scan! I'm going to have to think seriously about getting these.

I really wonder why Columbia/Tristar fell down on the job with some of these transfers when others were fine.

I know that Dragon Fist is uncut cause it has the scene of the kid being killed.

    Plus, it has 92 minutes.
Really, I checked the time code.
Even with PAL speedup, that´s a lot of minutes! [IMG]

Oh, sorry, I wasn't disputing that! [IMG] The DVD I'm referring to is a *British* DVD, from Eastern Heroes. The British DVD cover art says 92 mins but when I watched it, it was just 74 minutes -- i.e., the cut version, without the kid being killed and the other missing scenes. I just checked Eastern Heroes website and don't see Dragon Fist listed anymore. Maybe they're re-doing it? Anyway, thanks for the info about the French DVDs!
