I am about to set up a 7.1 ch system. What is the purpose of the surround side and surround back. Also, the way my room is set up, I will have to place them at about 7' high.

Thanks,

Assuming your have a 7.1 receiver and proper placement of the speakers, the purpose of the surrounds is to give a more realistic and seamless field of sound.

What type of speakers are your purchasing? If you're getting one set of bipole or dipole speakers those should be used as the surround side speakers directly to the sides of the main seating area. The rear speakers should be placed a little more centralized behind the main seating area.

7 feet high is a good height for surrounds. You might angle them down a little, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Make sure you buy an SPL meter to help calibrate your system properly once you get it set up.

I thought I would experiment with the premier acoustic set plus the extra two surrounds. I am hooking it up to a pioneer elite 84TXsi and viewing on a 46 XBR3.

And thanks for the help.
