Hi to all,

I want to buy a new home theater receiver, nothing fancy, preferably $460 tops. About the features, don't care about ipod support/networking/HDMI 1.4/7.1, if it has them it's cool but I can live without it. only thing is I can only buy from amazon, I live in south america so I can't return it easily, so I don´t think it's a good idea to buy a refurbished/used model.

I need help to decide on the best receiver, I have to buy from amazon because in my country they don't sell any of this receivers, they just bring crappy bluray/dvd player with 5.1 speakers integrated, so I was looking at these in amazon:

- Pioneer VSX-921-K 7.1 Home Theater Receiver $449

- Marantz SR5004 Audio/video Receiver $459.77

- Denon AVR-1911 7.1 $400

- Yamaha RX-V667 $400 or Yamaha RX-V571BL $450

I might consider spending a little more and get a $500 one, but I don't know if it's worth it, I like this 2:

- Onkyo TX-NR609 $500
- Marantz SR5005 $500

From the pictures I like the look of the Marantz better but I'm open to other suggestions, thanks for your help.

Since you said you don't need all the fluff I'd say the Marantz 5004 first, closely followed by the Denon 1911. But you could save $60 on the 1911 which is always a good thing (the 5004 does have 7.1 pre-outs for an external amp if you would ever need one). I don't see any reason for you to go up to the 5005 or 609 if you aren't interested in 3D, 1.4, networking, etc.

Look at the backs of these receivers or read the specs to make sure that whatever you buy has the correct inputs to match the outputs of your current equipment. The newer receivers, e.g. the 1911 are going pretty much HDMI on everything. I think that the Marantz 5004 may be more what you need but check it out for yourself.

Well I'm gonna use it for an htpc and directv hd, so I'm ok with the marantz 3 hdmi connections. At first I wanted the Pioneer but from what I read in other threads most people prefer the other brands, so I think I'm going with the 5004.

Another thing, I have this speakers:

JBL 5.1 Channel Surround Cinema Speaker System with 10" Subwoofer SCS500.5

I want to upgrade them too, I was looking at this bookshelf speakers:

- JBL ES20BK 3-Way, 5 1/4" Bookshelf Speaker

I was thinking in buying one pair first, then the rest, so do you think this will be a noticeable upgrade? Will it work fine with the other speakers(center, subwoofer, etc) while I buy another pair and the center channel speaker(JBL ES25CBK)?
