My brother just purchased a new Panasonic rear projection tv. It his the 53WX model. Since this is a 16:9 set I am wondering this: When watching a widescreen dvd should there still be a slight amount of letterboxing of the image, or should the image fill the screen totally? I own a Pioneer rear projection set, but it is 4:3 so I really don't have much knowledge about 16:9 sets. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

if the film is 2.35:1 then yes a tiny bit of letterboxing will happen.

Techically any film wider than 1.78 should show some black at the top and bottom of a widescreen display. There should be some with a aspect of 1.85. However, most widescreen displays will not show any at that ratio due to overscanning of the image by the display.

Thanks guys. Thats what I thought, but I wanted to make sure I was correct. I popped in Toy Story and it filled the screen. I just wanted to make sure I had the settings correct for him.
