Hello everybody I hope you can help me. I just got a new Sharp Aquos TV (LC-46D85U) and a Sharp Blu-Ray (BD-HP21U).

The problem I'm having is in getting a digital signal from the blu-ray to my Sony receiver (STR-K8508). I make the optical connection but there isn't any sound. The owners manual for the player says that the digital connection works with 5.1 which is what the receiver is. The front of the receiver has an indicator that tells you when it's getting a digital signal and it is not coming on.

I have used this same setup with a Panasonic DVD recorder that I have and that worked fine.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

If you're using the same input you've used before, that worked, but not working now, it's probably a setting is wrong in the player's setup menus. You may need to tell the blu ray player to use optical, instead of HDMI, for audio.

If you're using the same kind of connection (optical), but using a different input than you used before, you may need to assign the input to the player. Your manual will walk you through that.
Good luck!
