i recently picked up a denon avr-1609 for 300 on sale at best buy. i needed speakers also and the guy talked me into a definitive technology pro cinema system for 700...it includes 2 fronts, 2 rears, a center and the sub. my room is only 12x13 so i dont need anything too crazy. he demo'd them for me and i was impressed for the size of them. anyway, i saw in the paper today that 6ave has a similar receiver...the denon avr-1708 for 200 on sale....

so my main question is what is the better receiver? the 1609 or 1708?

i will be using my ps3 as my dvd/bluray player
i have a 1080p aquos tv
fios set top box
xbox 360 for some gaming every now and then.

I would say the 1609 because it has Audyssey with Dynamic Control. The 1708 doesn't have Audyssey in any form. Otherwise, they both have hdmi 1.3 switchers (not repeaters) and are rated the same 75 wpc.

Audyssey is an automatic setup and room equilizer that can greatly improve the systems sound.

A receiver with hdmi 1.3 repeater can decode the new Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA sound formats found on most BluRay discs. A switcher can only pass them thru, if internally decoded by the player. Decoding in the receiver is better.
