I took a dead Kenwood DVD player off a coworker's hands, thinking I could fix it. It was the victim of a lightning strike. Well, so far no luck. I'm getting power thru the fuse and it seems to a lot of components inside. But, it will not go into standby or power on, even though I'm getting power to the Power/Standby button. It has a hard push type power on/off button and a separate Power/Standby button. I get no light at the standby even though I can make the light come on by jumping the ground to the power source at the switch. Probably not the best idea, but I'm trying to troubleshoot. Anyway, just wondering if anyone could think of any specific component to check. It seems like a switch or relay is not allowing it to go into standy. Thanks, and if I can't fix it, it'll be going to Goodwill.

If it was damaged by lightening, I doubt it will be very useful to Goodwill. It would cost far more to repair it than it's probably worth to sell (in the unlikely event it's repairable). Perhaps if there is a Badwill around?

Trevor,

That's pretty funny!!! Badwill. Anyway, I'll probably just toss it. It's a shame to have such disposable electronics these days. Thanks for the response.

you can always try wiring around the switch, just be careful when you turn it on
