OK, I know...may of you detest Bose...For my set-up they sound pretty darn good. Now, I've gotten the upgrade bug, and have a new 7.1 receiver. I know I can't simply add two new cubes, as there is no adapter for the sound module. But I can add two rear surrounds of a different style/Brand. What would you experts recommend?

This is easy sell the bose on ebay (they have a great resale since so many are uneducated about home audio) and pick up a set of jbl n-series in white (so they'll blend into the wall), and pick up an extra set of jbl n26 for the mains. Odds are that you can pick these up on ebay, buy some 12g home depot speaker wires, and use the left over money to make a down payment on a real sub, calibration disc, and a spl meter. In this fashion you will pick up a superior sound system, the ability to calibrate it, and most likely the cost upgrade should be minimal.
