While I am not the dumbest guy on the planet I do not have a mechanical mind.

Thanks in advance to whomever tries to help me out.

I purchased the following:

Panasonic HDTV Model TH-42PX50U

Bose Bose 3 2 1 GS Series 2 Receiver/DVD Speaker System.

After looking at the manuals for hours it seems like the Panasonic has every connction type available-the Bose has every connection except HDMI.

I subscribe to DirecTV and will calling them to install a HD Dish and Receiver (I think I am not going to spend $399 for the HD/DVR at this time unless someone offers up a good reason to-it seems like the NEW DirecTv DVR will be available in a few months much cheaper).

What is the best way to connect these items?

What cables should I have on hand when the installer arrives?

Thanks again to all/anyone who responds.

I will be checking back later....since I live on Long Island NY I have about 20 inches of snow waiting to be shoveled!

I'm not familiar with your receiver...does it switch component video?

If it does not, I would set up the video as follows:

Direct TV component video out to TV component video 1 in.
DVD component video out to TV component video 2 in.
VCR (S-Video or Composite video) out to TV video 3 in.

To watch a source, you would scroll through your TV's video inputs until you find the component you want to watch.

For Audio:

Direct TV Digital Audio Out to Receiver Digital Audio In 1.
DVD Digital Audio Out to Receiver Digital Audio In 2.
VCR Analog Audio Out to Receiver Analog Audio In 3.

You would assign the audio inputs to match the component. When you hit the DVD button, for example, your receiver should switch to the Audio 2 input.

Hope this helps...

Welcome to the forum...
First, I'd consider taking the Bose stuff back if you can. I'm surprised there hasn't been a lot of the Bose bashing already happening here. Not a lot of Bose fans here... Kinda get the same reaction when you mention Monster Cable.
IMO for the thousand bucks you spent on the Bose HTIB you could get a lot more. If you can still, check out Onkyo, HK and even Pioneer for nice HTIB systems. In that price you could even set yourself up with a pretty decent seperates system.
Some links for nice HTIB set ups...
