My driver version 6.6.9.3 and driver date 10/29/04. Is that the latest driver?

EDIT: I looked on nvidia's site and the latest driver is 71.84. I'll download it when I get home.

I ran the BurnInTest last night and it didn't find any errors. Also, my brother-in-law played FarCry again last night for about an hour and a half (computer case closed) and it didn't shut down. We checked the temps, and GPU was 68C and CPU was 42C. I am totally confused as to what the problem is.

BTW, I googled "6800 GTOC drivers" this AM and this thread came up. :)

Update: I installed new drivers for my video card, and played Farcry with my case open and it still shut down. After playing only for 10 mins. I'm wondering if its my power supply? Because, right after it shuts down, I can't turn it back on unless I switch off the power supply and wait about 10-15 mins to switch it back on. After I do this, it boots up without my pressing the power switch on the case. I'm going to switch out the PSU and put in one from my other computer and see what happens. That PSU is 400 watts. Is that enough given all my components?

I noticed with my mb, that once one of the power plugs were grounding against the case and everything power off. Once I found where the ground was, I removed it and it took a few minutes to come back up. Not too sure that it might be the power supply.

One time, way back, playing red alert on westwood, I found that a bad nic was causing my pc to reboot after a game. Instead of kicking me back to the lobby the machine would just shut off.

What happens when this machine is left at idle over night? Is it still running in the morning or is it off?

I have a funny feeling it is your card or ram. I am sure that once the machine is under a heavy load, it conks out.

Can you stick an old card in there and try playing you game? Also reduce your ram sticks after that and alternate them one at a time.

Doe this happen under any other games?

Let me know how you make out!

Fortron normally makes a good PSU, but you can always get one that is bad or doesn't yield the required voltage draw. So, it's within the realm of possibility.

PM me, I'll send you something :)

Still on. Problem so far only occurs playing Farcry, and it isn't consistant. Played last night for two hours no shut down. I did notice that the video card temp after playing was 68C with the computer case off. 68C has been my idle temp with case cover on. Maybe my card is the problem.

Return it if it is not too late or buy another one jsut to test. It can be the same model, as long as you know people that use that card and play that game without problems.

Have you had anyone else try playing the game on your PC? Maybe it isn't the card or the game, maybe the problem is you. :)

Backin the day I use to play Vigalance, game would freeze on a certain board. But I got smart and saved it right before it would freeze. Then it would freeze and once I started from the saved point, it went cmooth as silk!

Funny. :D Yes, it also shuts down when my brother-in-law plays. Maybe I'll have my wife play and see what happens; maybe it doesn't like guys. :D

If it all happens on the same computer, that does not prove anything. Go out right now and replace the card, or replace the game!

I replaced the card today and so far so good. I've been playing FarCry for the last few hours and so far no shut down.

My idle GPU core temp is between 59-61C, and while playing FarCry it was 65-68C. So far it seems that the card was the problem, but I won't feel 100% sure until after I play a few more times without incident.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help. Going back to kill a few more mercs. :D

Good that you found the problem. My latest computer that I built I discovered that my recycled Dell DVD Rom Drive was causing my system to crash, wierd but true.

I just beat Far Cry last week, cool game, although I wish it was longer.

It happened again!! I had no problems all week after installing the new card, and then it happened again yesterday and today. Since its only happening with FarCry, I'm wondering if its the problem. But can software cause a comptuer to shutdown like that?

Jeez, this is a good one. Lets try this, we should have done right from the get go.

Right click on My computer,
Go to Manage and Left click,
Go down and expand event viewer,
then Left click on Application.

Try to find the error around the time of the computer shutting off.

Right click on the event and click properties and post what it says pertaining to the shut off or whatever might have caused the malfunction.
Check to see if there are any other alerts in there.

That might give us a better idea...
