Hi all! Ineed some help with my new Toshiba 50hdx82.
This is the second one I've had. The fisrt one went pop
9 days after I got it. The image quality wasn't to bad but
the new one I got the whites are overwhelmingly bright
drowning out detail in and around them as well as the blacks. Can this be fixed in the service menu? If yes
is there a list of what all the options are?

Have you tried adjusting the set with Avia?

No I haven't. I was just checking the price for it. Have you used it and does it tell everything?

I'm not sure quite what you mean by "tell everything," but it'll give you test patterns to make the basic consumer settings for brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness, plus sound adjustments if you run audio through your receiver.

You might be able to rent it locally.

Jeff, the quickest thing to do is to put the set in 'Movie' mode (if you haven't already done this). It's also been my experience that Brightness is set too low...try a setting of about 60 or so.

I've tried every mode and still the same. On the Monsters Inc. DVD There is a THX audio and video test in the setup. You adujust contrast, brightness, color etc... I did that but still lights are to bright and shadows to dark. Not quite as bad but still very noticeable. By everything I meant does it tell about adjustment in the service menu and things like that.
