You might remember last time, the HTF suggested "good" movies involving vampires. I was on a quest to find quality made films, classics and milestones of any genre that involved VAMPIRES.

I bought about $200 worth of Vampire movies and enjoyed quite a few of them...

Well, I'm back again- looking for recommendations for BAD vampire films for this halloween. I know there are some real stinkers out there, but I'm looking to go one step further.

I'm not just looking for badly edited and amatuer productions- that's too easy--I don't necessarily want ED WOOD bad. I don't just want THIS ISLAND EARTH bad.

Instead I'm just looking for movies that don't work, are cheesy or feature rediculous exploitive late night cable nudity! I want films that are executed in a reasonably adept manner, but simply through the story, the actors, plot holes or some other factors- they take stinking to a new level.

I think I'll start with the Alyssa Milano softcore film, Embrace of the Vampire that I skipped last time around- and we'll go from there. If you know the title you're suggesting is on DVD- please include any info you know (especially is it's OAR and/or anamorphic).

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I will be watching and summarizing you suggestions, just like last time around. So let me have it!!

There's always Vamp, which came out sometime in the mid 80s starring Grace Jones, and seemed to sink her aspirations in the movies.

The Hunger, also an 80s flick. In spite of starring Catherine Deneuve [sp?] David Bowie and Susan Sarandon, this one always smelled kinda bad to me. Were they vampires, or just extremely long lived folks who had a kinky liking for blood and murder? One thing that made me uncomfortable was the rather explicit love scene between Deneuve and Sarandon.

Dracula - 1979 version starring Frank Langella. In spite of spicing up the old vampire legends by starring a real hottie as Dracula, and having an awesome John Williams score, this one is pretty slow, and they don't really take advantage of the seduction by evil/terror/sex/death thing as well as they could have. Not even Lawrence Olivier and Donald Pleasence could save this one. Frank gave it the old college try. Good idea, IMO a rather poor execution.

OK.

The Vampire Happening is pretty crap. Nice crumpet in it, but still crap.

Dracula Vs Frankenstein is bollocks!

Scream Blacula Scream is damn disappointing after the excellent 1st movie.

Vampyre in Venice is a real let-down as the sequel to Nosferatu: The Vampyre.

Dracula's Widow: Sylvia Krystel vamps it up. But it is still the most dreadful balls.

Drawing Blood: Troma. You know the rest.

Rockula: Oh, piss off...

Jim Carrey in Once Bitten. Also, My Best Friend is a Vampire. Both are very 80's and campy.

Vampyres

Also Known As:
Blood Hunger (1974)
Daughters of Dracula (1980) (USA) (reissue title)
Satan's Daughters (1974)
Vampyres, Daughters of Dracula (1974)
Vampyres: Daughters of Darkness (1975) (USA)

It was called Daughters of Dracula when I saw it, but the Anchor Bay DVD uses the Vampyres title. Worst lesbian vampire movie ever.

I have to make a case for "Vamp" being removed from this list of "bad" movies. Yes, it is bad but not BAD. Not Van Helsing bad. It is actually a great take on 80's vampirism that stands the test of time...well, no it doesn't but it does take the neon glow look of the 80's and stick fangs in it. It is full of fun one-liners and a ludicrous college-boy-antics-coming-of-age parody at the same time. Sort of. Heck, it has one of the great final lines, second only to the closing line of "Lost Boys."

In company like "Van Helsing" and "Scream Blacula Scream" this would be unfair.

Dracula 2000. I saw (most of) it at 1am whil doing an OS reinstall. Being on that late and watching it with a dulled mind did not help in the least. Gaaaagh!

Bordello of Blood might be lame but I don't think it's necessarily bad. But it does have a lot of totally unnecessary boob shots!

And I liked Dracula 2000...

Oh wait, one more thing... I haven't seen the From Dusk 'Til Dawn sequels, but I heard they're pretty bad.

I say THE HUNGER is bad, but the first 10 minutes have to be some of the greatest stuff I have ever seen in any vampire movie.

I second Bordello of Blood

When your main vampire hunter is Dennis Miller, the film is in deep, deep trouble.

The Fearless Vampire Killers fits, in my book. I think it's a very unfunny comedy. It just came out on DVD too, in its original aspect ratio.
