Help!! Looking for IR receiver for Pioneer A/V receiver. (1 Viewer)

I'm trying to find an IR receiver used specifically for the multi-room function on Pioneer receivers. The model # is MR-100. It plugs into the back of the receiver for remote control from the zone 2 room. I've looked on Ebay, Pioneers website, Onecall.com J&R and Parts Express. So far no joy. Has anyone with a Pioneer or Elite receiver (I have the 45TX) ever seen one of these? And if so, where? I'm beginning to wonder if Pioneer actually made them. If they did, they should make them easier to find.

It sounds like you're looking to control your 45TX with your remote from the second zone that you're running off of it. I have a 45TX as well, and have some outdoor speakers running off of the rear surrounds, and for using my remote outside I use these nifty little gadgets from www.smarthome.com called Powermids. They run about $40. They are 2 little pyramid deals, about 4" tall, and you put one in your 2nd zone, and the other in front of the 45TX. They both have to be plugged into the wall. The one in your 2nd zone coverts the IR signal from the remote to RF, then the 2nd powermid picks up the RF signal, converts back to IR for your receiver to pick up. This is the best, non-permanent, useful solution on the market I believe. It's literally plug and play!!!

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that I already use the pyramids for control from two zones. However, it only controls the master volume when the receiver is on and powering the speakers as A/B. It doesn't work with the multi-zone, multi-function (receiver off - multi-room on). The 45TX remote doesn't even control the multi-room function or volume. It can only be done on the front panel. I was thinking of trying one of the Niles remote IR pickups, but they only work with the Niles system and have bare wire on the ends. I need it to be a mini-plug. I'm having very little luck tracking down anything that will work. It's frustrating, because I remember having an old Pioneer receiver about ten years ago with the same remote room hookup option. It used the same model IR receiver and I could never find one then either. But I'll continue the search.

I checked out that Russound. It looks like it will work. I'll try to find one online, hopefully from somewhere with a good return policy in case it doesn't work. Thanks for the tip. Still seems strange that Pioneer wouldn't have made one of these.

I have the 07TX and, before that, the D901S.

The MR units are for Multi-Room and, using the SR capabilities, allow you to control your second zone from the second zone and control the source/volume/etc of that second zone only. ---- Kids can be watching a movie in Zone 1 while you and your spouse enjoy relaxing music in Zone 2.

Jon, running the outside off the rears, you only have control of the volume/source/etc in Zone 1

Drawbacks
The newer models need a separate amp to power Zone 2 ... the receiver will only send a line level signal.

The older models use the surround amp for Zone 2 (Zone 1 doesn't have surround if Zone 2 is on)


I had my system with the basement (all Pioneer except for Sony VCRs - with Dolby Digital surround) as Zone 1 and then the living room was Zone 2 with Sonys SAVA system providing Dolby Pro-Logic, the MR-100 to control all things Pioneer via the SR link, and the pyramids to control the VCRs.

Take a second to think about this .....
I'm controlling 7 pieces of equipment, that I can't see, with the MR not disturbing anything that may be going on in Zone 1 (unless I happen to switch to the same source that's in use in Zone 1)
