All,

Does anyone have any experience with any quality in wall speakers? I am working on putting together a HT in my basement and have two surrounds that need to be in wall. I will take any advice as I know most in walls do not perform well.

Thanks

Matt

I just installed a pair of these as my back surrounds and am very pleased. They can be found online starting around $80/each. If you do a little Googling, you'll find HomeTech is a division of Sonance, one of the leaders in in-wall speakers. The HomeTech models are designed by the same engineers and appear to benefit from trickle down technology.

If you read some of the Sonance literature, they do recommend back boxes for their in-wall units, where possible. My wall's back side is an attic and I first tried running the speakers with the back open. Adding a piece of MDF to create a .5 ft^3 box using the surrounding studs and cross bracing really helped the bass and low midrange respone.

I didn't find them until I'd already ordered the HomeTechs, but the HTD in-walls look like a solid value as well.

There are some companys that make great in wall speakers. Source Technologies is one of them but there are some others. Some Inwall speakers sound better than a lot of floorstanding speakers, but they are very costly and worth every penny of it. It all depends on you budged, if you've got the money it's out there.

I have Proficient Audio brand speakers as the surrounds in my bedroom, and have them in other places in my house. I have been extremely satisfied with the Proficient products, they have exceeded my expectations! Highly recommended.

I too am looking for help with in-wall/ceiling speakers. Posted a couple weeks ago specifically asking about Triad, Sunfire, and Elan speakers and never got any responses. Where can I find info on what's good if I do have the money in my budget?

I can tell you I had around 12 of the Paradigm AMS100 5 1/4 rounds in my ceiling and was real happy with them. I had a whole house system with Niles amp pushing them and they held up and sounded great. Im guessing now but think they ran around 240 a pair. Great sound for a 5 1/4.

I have listened to these bevore and I do have to say I was blown away by the sound. Like I said not cheap but as good as most floorstanders in the same price range.
