I was working on someone's computer trying to resize the partitions on a second hard drive with Partition Magic. The computer froze in DOS when it was resizing and it had to get rebooted. Now the computer won't recognize the drive at all. Neither BIOS or DOS can find it. Fortunately there wasn't anything important on there, but it would be nice to have the drive back. Any thoughts?

I've had "accidents" with PartitionMagic in the past, but none of these unfortunate incidents resulted in a totally unrecognizable drive. It almost sounds as if the drive failed totally during the resizing procedure. Considering how intensively PM can drive a hard disk, this would not be too surprising.

Can you take the drive out and try it on another computer?

Tim,

If even the BIOS doesn't recognize it, it sounds like a hardware problem to me. What brand of drive is it? Western Digital and Maxtor each have diagnostic utilities available on their websites which will analyze the drive and try to repair any errors found.

Good Luck,

Bill
