hi all -
i just recently piced this up - one of my all-time favorite flicks.
anyway, i noticed that even though it says dolby digital on the sleeve (and on my dvd player), it appears to only output to my left/right. i couldn't get any dialog out of my center.
i know it's not my system because i put in another dvd and it worked fine.
two weird things.
1. the mgm logo that starts up the dvd does send sound to my center.
2. the sleeve says dolby digital, but then it says something about dolby stereo surround - not sure what they mean by that.
so, why am i not getting any signal (even pro-logic) for my center? the languages menu only states 'english' or 'french' dialog - nothing about sound formats.
thanks,
ted
[edit] this is the version i have:

Dolby Digital can any number of channels, from 1 to 5.1+. Shallow Grave is in Dolby Digial Stereo Surround. Set your receiver to decode it as Prologic and you should be fine.

edit: just saw your cover shot. I was referring to the new MGM disc but now it sounds like they both are DD SS.

The one in your picture was released on 12/22/1998 and the MGM one I have on 3/28/2000. No extras but a trailer on the MGM one if I recall. Transfer was pretty good.

thanks again for the info mark. looks like i got the wrong one, but since they're apparantly pretty similar i suppose i won't sweat it. as long as i'm not missing anything. my copy doesn't have any special extras either.

I'm interested in the Region 1 disc. Anyone know if the film suffered any alterations for its US release, and if so, whether the DVD has them too?

What's the aspect ratio of the movie?
On amazon, they list the '98 disc with a ratio of 1.85:1 but on the 2000 disc it's listed as 1.66:1.

Is this just a misprint? And if so, what's the real ratio?

umm...

not sure how to measure on my tv, but 1.85 looks about right. it's definitely not 2.35 wide - that's for sure.

i'm totally guessing, but 1.66 seems to narrow.

According to dvd profiler, the 98 issue is 1.85:1 and the mgm issue is 1.66:1. I cam confirm the latter.
