While driving to Blockbuster, I noticed that my A/C was running but it was not dispensing cool air.

    What do I do?!!

You take it in to a mechanic and have them look at it. [IMG] It could be any number of things ranging from just needing a recharge all the way up to needing a new compressor, or worse (I can't imagine what could be worse though).

What year is the car ? A new type of ozone friendly Freon was introduced to the auto market sometime in the 90's, not sure when. If your car has an air conditioning system that uses the 'old' Freon, you could have bigger problems. I'm not sure if it's OK for the mechanics to re-charge the old systems any more. Like the others said, take it to a reliable mechanic.

I forget the name, but there is a new refrigerant that is usable in both systems WITHOUT a retro fit.

Just in case you need a refil

First, how old is the car, by 95, just about all cars were using R-134 instead of R-12.
because of the front seal on the compressors and certain car companies snap-in hose fittings, most AC systems in cars will need to be recharged after a couple of years, they are not sealed systems like home units
R-134 is cheaper than any of the universal replacements and most universal replacements still require the epa license to buy where R-134 does not
it is most likley you just need a recharge and don't let them talk you into a socalled AC tuneup because it is a rip off

I noticed that you live in Fla. Sometimes when it's very humid the coils can ice over. Turn the a/c off while the fan is running for a minute or so and turn it on. If that doesn't help take it in to get it checked. Hope this works.

    Thanks you guys,
My car is a 2001 Ford Focus, I guess I am going have to take it in.
Does anybody know how much it will cost?

First time cost me nothing, other the environmental charges (why do they charge these if the refer is r-135?) Then the compressor died again (just after replacement warranty expired. Cost about $CAN 750
Oh, and why when buying a new car, you are charged the environmental tax for A/C if the A/C is environmentally "friendly"? [IMG]

"R-134 is cheaper than any of the universal replacements" Sure but nearly impossible to get.

    Time is money.

Actually it's illegal to sell it in Ontario now.
