I happen to glance at my PC's toolbar and noticed it said my speakers were muted. I opened the volume controls and it won't let me uncheck the MUTE box...I haven't done anything different since I was last listening to them a few days ago.

I've gone into control panel, and my PC's sound card controls and can't uncheck any of the MUTE buttons.

I'm running XP Home w/ SP2.

Any thoughts on how to fix?

GREAT!!
I called the jackasses at Best Buy tech support (per my PC manufacturer's rules-- Medion brand PC)

He had me uninstall my sound card from Device Manager..we restarted and the sound card showed back up but now I have NO sound controls at all list in the Control Panel sounds section.

I open it and it says "No sound device"

Arrrgh!!

What can I do to fix this mess..I don't want to go to BB store for repair like the jackass on the phone says I need to do!??

Well I decided to do an XP restore back to Monday and all is well.

I'm scanning with Spybot/ Adaware/ and Norton right now to look for bugs.

Still unsure why it all happened, but I have sound now.

Big question though...Is it a bad thing to rely on and use the XP restore in a case like this?

Thanks
Alf
