I got this note today... there was no subject in the email and there was an email address lsited as [email protected]...

Probably, your computer was infected and now runs a hidden proxy server.

Please follow the instruction in the attached file in order to keep your computer safe.>>>

Is there anyway to find out if this is the case without opening their zip file?

You could go to one of the anti-virus company websites to see if they have seen it but you can be about 99.999999999% sure it is a virus and as soon as you click on it you will be sending the same message to everyone you know. Many virus protection programs will also allow you to right click and scan an attachment as well but that could give you a false sense of security if the virus is too new to be in the definition file.

This is a mail generated by the MyDoom O virus. Ignore it, delete it and definitely don't open the attatchement if there is one.
