Hi everyone -

I was hoping someone could help answer a wiring questions I have.

I have an older Denon Receiver - 2400 - which has no HDMI inputs on the back. I just purchased a new TV - Sony 52 XBR4 - and I also have a basic Sony Upconverting DVD player. Now both the DVD player and the TV obviously have HDMI outputs and inputs, but since my receiver does not how do I go about wiring this?

Do I just connect the DVD player right to the TV using the HDMI and run audio cables to the receiver? Same question for the cable box - it has the HDMI, do I just run that right to the TV as well and run audio to the Receiver?

Thanks for your help on this!

You are correct. I have 2 video sources now with HDMI and my receiver does not have HDMI switching built in. Also, my projector only has a single HDMI input. My sources run into an HDMI switch and then to the projector.

To make switching inputs easier, I use a Harmony remote.

What is an HDMI Switch and why do you run them into that then the projector? Is it OK that I just run them right into the TV?

That is one way. Another way would be to forego the HDMI and use component switching on the receiver. It would eliminate the upconversion on the player, but sometimes the TV does a better job of upconverting than the player.

Yes, it is OK to connect your HDMI source directly to the TV but I have two satellite receivers with HDMI outputs and only one HDMI input on the projector. I don't want to unplug one and plug in the other every time I want to change sources. That would make it really difficult during football season to watch 4 games at once. I use something similar to this that selects which HDMI source I want to view.

I don't believe I have component inputs on my receiver.
The receiver is about 10 years old. It is the Denon 2400.

You are correct, the 2400 doesnt have component inputs. I would run hdmi to tv, then use an optical cable for the dvd player and another optical or digital coax to the STB for audio to receiver.
