First of all, I'm new to this group and very excited to see that it exists. I have been snooping around here for a few days, but today I got my username and password and am happy to be a part of this unique group.

    Now, on to the questions...

I'm looking for some advice or guidance. Below is my setup:

    Yamaha RXV670 Receiver

    Yamaha CDC645 CD Changer

    Sony HI-FI VCR

    Sony 32" Trinitron TV

    Eosone RSA100 Satellites (3)

    Eosone 10" Powered Sub

For Christmas I received a Toshiba SD2715 DVD Changer. I was excited to get it becuase I can eliminate my current CD changer. I had originally hoped to keep everyhting the same for interoperability reasons, but now it appears that I have a hodge-podge of equipment.

So the question is, should I keep the Toshiba, or get a Sony? And, should I keep the Yamaha receiver or get Sony as well? The Yamaha equipment is in great condition and I have no reason to get rid of it, other than new feature sets and unity of equipment. Is there any advantage to doing this?

Whew! That was a bit windy!

Any advice for a new home theater guy?

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Vic

    Vic: welcome to the forum!

unless you plan to buy from the Sony ES line...no. Yamaha makes better low- to mid-fi stuff than Sony does. i also think the Toshiba DVD players are much better than any Sony in this price range.

    Thomas,

Would you go with a DVD changer or just a single disc?

    Agreed.

You don't need to match manufatorers of components.

DVD changer? Personally, I don't care for them. I only watch one movie at a time. I don't understand the extra expense.

You already have a CD changer don't you? don't get rid of it. If your receiver has the room for all the components, use them.

    Vic:

    Keep the Toshiba!

You have a 32" TV. Most DVD's will only use about 19" of your screen. The Toshiba has a 4 level zoom feature (helps you use most of your 32" screen).

I belive other features include playback of CDR/CDRW/MP3.

    Enjoy!

Vic: Keep all of your old equipment. If you have the luxury of keeping all of you components, try out the Toshiba for awhile. Essentially test drive it, see what you think then decide.
