I believe at Studio Day this past year, Anchor Bay (?) mentioned something about a Heathers Special Edition that would be coming out this year. Has there been any news on this front?

Excellent, I hadn't heard this - one of my favourite movies. Really wish they would include the original script because I know they had to cut out an awful lot of very funny material.

    The latest news from DVDReview:
    http://www.dvdreview.com/html/news.html
Here's part of the news item:
The new THX-certified disc will be given an anamorphic widescreen transfer and a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. An audio commentary will feature the voices of director Michael Lehmann, producer Denise Di Novi and writer Daniel Waters. Other supplements new to this DVD include the Original Ending from the screenplay, Swatch Dogs And Diet Coke Heads: An all new 27-minute Documentary featuring interviews with Stars Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk, director Michael Lehmann, writer Daniel Waters, producer Deinse Di Novi, director of photography Francis Kenny and editor Norman Hollyn. Further, a Theatrical Trailer, Talent Bios and Closed Captioning for the Hearing Impaired will be included on this disc.
Now, here's the kicker for all fans. The release will be available in not one, but six different packages. The regular Special Edition will arrive with five different covers - one for each Heather, one for Veronica Sawyer, and one for J.D. It will also contain a 4-page booklet with photos and liner notes. Additionally, a Limited Edition Tin Special Edition will be released with a numbered 15,000 unit production run. The tin edition will replace the standard booklet with a full 48-page "yearbook style" booklet, a 10-page accordion fold booklet with photos and liner notes, and an 8" Heathers Rules! black ruler.
The new and improved "Heathers" will come to stores on September 25th. The special edition will be given a suggested retail price of $19.98, and the tin will be priced slightly higher.

Is the commentary going to be BRAND NEW? or the commentary used from the laserdisc?
The laserdisc commentary has the same people as the announced DVD commentary

EXACT same commentary as the laserdisc. However, for those who've never heard it, you find the single finest audio commentary ever recorded. Hilariously funny and full of fascinating information.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but this is great. I just got done watching the original DVD and looked it up to find out of anyone else here thought it was as awful as I did (not the movie the transfer). There were scenes that looked like someone was turning the sharpness up and down repeatedly on my TV (I keep it all the way down [IMG]). Plus the sound was sub par as well.
Can't wait for the new one, and if I don;t get it well, then, "LIFE SUCKS! [IMG]"

Has Winona Ryder ever done a commentary for laserdisc? I know there's nothing with her on DVD.

Does anyone know if the tin is gonna be of the same awful size as Evil Dead II, not including a keep-case for the movie itself?
Or maybe it is an Akira like tin this time?

Make sure you get the Limited Edition.
    I think it's only has a pressing of 15,000
It has an ALL NEW docummentary. Plus has a 'high school yearbook' style booklet.
It will be mine Sept 25!!!

As far as I can tell, the documentary will be available in the "non-limited edition" version too. The only real extras to be had in the LE are a 48-page booklet, a bunch of stills and an 8" black ruler.

Glad to hear all the goodies on the new edition. Heathers is one of the more imminently quotable films to come out of the 1980's. It's just loads of fun, and never drags.
Also, that commentary is truly a hoot, I enjoyed listening to it on my LD version of Heathers.
