The only thing that I really want from Paramount right now is for them to take responsibility for the Republic LIbrary. Lionsgate has shown nothing but disdain for it over the years, yet they continue to control it. The contents of this catalog are far superior to the bulk of the titles that Paramount continue to hold and re-re-re-release. Republic Pictures celebrated their 75th Birthday last year and even that wasn't enough to get these titles properly released!

  1. The Quiet Man
  2. The Quiet Man
  3. The Quiet Man
  4. The Quiet Man
  5. The Quiet Man
  6. Johnny Guitar
  7. Invasion of the Body Snatchers
  8. Rio Grande
  9. Pursued
  10. Moonrise

While their are other titles in the Paramount library that I would love to upgrade there is nothing that I see as mandatory at this point. Please focus on the titles that have not been released or have been improperly released!

Where the heck is Betty Boop??

I would like to see the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" restored by Ron and released. Also, even though it has been released, "The Italian Job" with Mark Wahlberg, because the banding

issues really bug me. It just appears throughout the movie.

Ron Smith -- here's a movie Paramount could restore and re-release theatrically instantly -- kids seeing this movie in a large theatre will think they have been transported in a time machine back to the late '60s (courtesy of the eyepopping production design by the designer who won the Oscar for "Chinatown" - name escapes me right now....)

This film was made by Cinema Centre Films and I'm pretty sure Paramount now owns their titles --

THE APRIL FOOLS starring Jack Lemmon and Catherine Deneuve -- with great support by Peter Lawford, Jack Weston, Myrna Loy, Charles Boyer and in supporting roles, Sally Kellerman, Harvey Korman, Kenneth Mars and Melinda Dillon.

I suspect the reason this movie has been out of commission for so long is because of music rights -- this movie tried to do what "Saturday Night Fever" succeeded eight years later: a great soundtrack score featuring two Bacharach/David songs (incl. "Say a Little Prayer") and a music score by Marvin Hamlisch.

And yes, THE QUIET MAN -- when it comes to romantic comedies, this picture makes "Just Go With It" look like a student film....

Heartily second that list (particularly the first five). I see from the Film Foundation site that both Rio Grande and Pursued have been restored (I've seen a stunning HD broadcast of the latter).

My top Republic restoration suggestions:

The Quiet Man

Letter From an Unknown Woman

Caught

Macbeth - one or several versions, as the case may be

Strange Affair of Uncle Harry

Pursued

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Johnny Guitar

Body and Soul

Long Day´s Journey into Night

The Pawnbroker

I suggest a separate voting process for Republic titles.

Wow! I didn't even realize all of those titles were Republic!!! I would buy every one of those titles in a heart beat!

If Paramount is not interested, than I'm sure Criterion would be. They would have to be licking their chops to get their hands on some of those titles.

Rio Grande is scheduled for two broadcasts on one of the HD movie channels next week... er... I'll get back to you about which one!

Though we did not get a copy to review, I do know that the Spongebob Squarepants movie was released on blu-ray recently:

I have the Russian import of "Waterloo" it is a beautiful looking film - would really work on Blu-ray (the sound is out of sync on the Russian version during the last hour)

Would love Waterloo, also the The Buccaneer (1958)

Probably not in need of a restoration but a highly

requested Christmas title.

"Scrooge" actually looks great up converted on my Blu-ray player and 52" screen. I for one, can wait on this title - while others are in desperate need of new transfers
