Does anyone sell a decent HDTV widescreen TV without the stereo speakers? Because the TV will be run through an already existing sound system, the speakers will be redundant/unused ... and if such a set exists, I think I could save a few bucks, but most importantly, a lot of wasted space and bulk.

Nobody makes such a set. Mfrs have to sell sets to everyone, not just us HT fanatics, and the set without speakers would not sell enough copys to justify making one.

As for the bulk, the screen on an rptv has to be pretty much centered with the viewer's eyeline in order to produce the necessary brightness, so the bulk pretty much has to be there to raise the set's screen to that area.

There are a few "table model" HD-ready 16/9 sets, without the bulky lower structure--Mits WS-46809 (46") and Hitachi 43UWX10B (43"). Both these sets will require a stand to raise them to a viewable height.
