Yes, I'll admit it. I can't stand playing games that aren't at least 480p. My TV has a pretty lousy line doubler, so interlaced games look... Like interlaced games [IMG]

However, my TV has SVGA inputs and I was wondering if there's some sort of PS2 VGA box (like the Dreamcast had) that would help improve the picture. Actually, when my Dreamcast is hooked up to my HDTV via VGA cables, it looks much better than any 480p signal.

Any quality VGA boxes that you guys can recommend for me? There's a host of PS2 titles I'd like to play but I've been spoiled by the Xbox's consistant 480p (or higher) support.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Moving to Hardware. I've seen at least one box that does this in Official Xbox Magazine (pretty cheap too at $70) but I'm guessing output is in component. You would need a transcoder or whatever they're called to get to SVGA connector (I'm assuming D-Sub 15?).

Games can't be deinterlaced like film, they can only be line-doubled and scaled. There is no way to make the 99% of PS2 games that are 480i look much better than they already are.

Would an ISCAN or an ISCAN pro do the trick in this case?

    Have you considered DScaler?

Again, scaling can help a little bit, but it is nothing like native VGA or component 480p. With game 480i, half the resolution is simply missing and cannot be replaced, not by the best scaler in the world.

You will get much better results with an outboard line doubler such as iScan or Dscaler.

Thanks for all the replies, guys! Where can I get more info on iScan or Dscaler? I mean, "what are they?" to begin with? Thanks again!

Looking forward to your impressions Jason, I'm curious to see how much of an improvement it is over the internal line doubler in your Wega.

PS- thanks for spelling it Wega. [IMG]
