Hi. I have a 4K television which did not come with hdr. I bought a 4K hdr Blu-Ray player. Why when I watch a 4K movie using my br player, does the word hdr on / off show on the screen? I thought the tv would have to have it. Do I get hdr like the player says, or is it nothing? I really need to know... receiver and everything else is 4K. Tia.

I may have posted on the wrong forum. Could someone move it to where it should be? Thanks

This thread is definitely in the wrong forum.
However just to share my experience with u... My display is a 48.5/49 incher Panasonic entry model that does hv HDR, but not of any known names we know of. To date,I hv not upgraded my movie collection as well as player to any embedded HDR types, but when playing DVD, I can activate the HDR function on my TV to get low light details highlighted out.
Ur display may not hv HDR types that is broadly discussed about, but there surely is a "hybrid" type hidden that u don't know, either from the player or the tv.
