I'm looking to hook my computer up to my receiver. HDMI seems the obvious solution. When I really want to watch or listen to content on my computer moving it to the other room and hooking up via HDMI seems to work fine. (except for games, but that's a seperate topic I plan to post soon.)
However, will buying a 30 foot HDMI cable to go right from the comp to the receiver cause too much signal drop? Would an active cable solution be the smarter choice, despite the pleas of my wallet?

Monoprice has 30ft HDMI cables starting under $30. That's cheap enough to buy and test. Just make sure to get in-wall rated if you are going through walls with your cable run.

To listen/view content on your PC, have you thought about using a networked media player instead?

I have one 30 ft and two 25 ft runs of HDMI from Blue Jeans Cable (about a dollar a ft and it's in-wall rated) with no issues and I'm not using any "active" relays or boosters.
