Hi all, I've recently bought the Sanyo PLV-Z3 and am very pleased with it...apart from the lack of detail in the shadow areas, but that's for another post.

So to the point; when I bought the projector, I thought it was an HD one, but I've just read in another post that there is a 'big difference' between an HD capable projector and a native HD projector. I'm not sure what this means!

So the question is; is it a proper HD projector? And if not, when an HD source signal is plugged into the Z3, will it actually display the image in a higher resolution?

    Thanks.

Jimi, yes the Sanyo Z3 is a native HD projector(720p). It will display true HD(WITH A HD SOURCE). ABC, FOX, ESPN all broadcast their HD programming in 720p. The other networks use 1080i(HD) for their programming, and your Z3 will scale it to 720p.

    Thanks Jim.

So, will the picture actually be made up of more dots than when it has a normal (low res) signal being sent to it?

Or will the low res signal be scaled to 720p?

    Greetings

Everything you feed it is scaled to fit the 720x1280 panel.

(Obviously the native stuff is not ... but that means native digital stuff.)

Feed it an analog component 720p signal and the scaler kicks in.

You will probably get better shadow detail once you properly set the unit up with the appropriate test discs.

    Regards

Michael, what are the test disks you refer to? Should they have come with the projector?

Test discs like AVIA, DVE, Sound & Vision HTT ... etc. Even THX optimisers ...

These don't come with the projector.

    Thanks again for your replies.

So, I guess I need to learn how to set up this projector properly!

Is there a tutorial anywhere that you know of?

    Greetings

The discs themselves are pretty self explanatory.
