data transfer rates are up to 28.2 mps, vs DVD upto 7.2 mps.
They blow away DVD in terms of image quality. My deck has suffered from several problems and well worn tapes have the occasional drop out....Only a few more years until HD DVD !
Gregg is right, after several plays I have DVHS tapes that have drops outs not only in audio but video. The quality is better than DVD hands down; however, the quality is no where near the full potential of the HDTV system.
Remember, NTSC was developed back in the 1930's and 1940's. We have since added color and gone component digital with that same system and boy does it look good!!! I can't wait to see what we can do with the HDTV system in ten years!!!
P.S. I have already had the oportunity to see some HD-DVD demos that already rival HD as we know it.
