Given the need for high quality Home Theater grade speakers when using a television such as the Sony HD KV36HS420 would it be practical to replace the original speakers with high performance units? Two major benefits would be space conservation and looks.

Your critique please.

I'm not really sure doing such a thing would be too practical. First of all, there likely isn't much room inside the cabinet for much more than what the manufacturer puts there. Second, bigger speakers usually come with bigger magnets, and properly shielding the tube from higher-powered speakers may prove to be a difficult thing to achieve. Finally, I'm not certain, but larger speakers would likely be a larger drain on the sets power supply, which is often only marginally adequate to begin with.

Your two main reasons for doing such a thing, (space conservation and aethetics), are really not that difficult to overcome with careful shopping and a little bit of legwork. There are many high-quality speakers that are remarkably small (Energy comes to mind) and AREN'T Bose ;)

There are also quite a few cool-looking home theater speakers that are much more than simple black boxes. I haven't shopped speakers for a while, but a quick search online would probably provide plenty of viable options.

Just my $0.02
