Well this might breath new life into the format.
Up to 1Gb capacity + LPCM recording seems worthwhile.

Maybe it's too much of a good thing? With that kind of capacity, how many blank MD's can you sell folks?[IMG]

I like the upgrade to existing minidiscs [IMG]. Even 28 mins of LPCM would be great for live recordings.

If you run a search on "Hi-MD" in the "portable audio" section of head-fi.org, you will find interest is very high on this new development.

I still have an earlier Sony MD recorder and portable MD players, but I almost never used them because the discs got expensive and took up a lot of room. But I must admit I'm very tempted by these new HD minidiscs. To be able to get up to 13 hours on a standard MD or an incredible 45 hours on an HD MD makes it worthy of serious consideration. I'm somewhat concerned about the audio quality at the lowest bitrates, but I can always use a faster bitrate if it proves unsatisfactory. I may have to check these babies out next month.

    Thanks for posting the link.
