Breaking news concerning the Bluray spec finalization. The link does not say whether they adopted a new codec other that MPeg2, you have to e-mail them first: http://www.eet.com/sys/news/showArti...cleID=26807181 HD-DVD coming early 2005: http://www.eet.com/sys/news/showArti...cleID=26807181 The larger reason I'm posting is b/c I want a discussion of what the future of High Def DVD and beyond holds. Mainly, four questions: 1.) Can MPEG2 on Bluray look as good as WMA HD on HD-DVD? 2.) Will much older films even benefit from 1080 horizontal lines? 3.) Will we see the problems of DVD mastering anymore, namely, filtering and edge enhancement? 4.) Considering the limitations of film source material, is there any benefit to creating a standard beyond HD or Bluray, other than 10bit color space?
