Can't imagine what the delay was on this BD if they wanted to take advantage of maximum interest after the end of the series. Perhaps their calculation was that absence makes the interest grow fonder. I'll be ready to visit Tony and the gang again later in the fall.

Concurred, mrz7. This one is definitely going under the tree for me this XMAS!!!!! I have been running through my old DVDs of the series and this announcement is very timely. I can see, clearly, through my old Sopranos DVDs, how my OPPOs and HDTVs are screaming for a Blu-ray Disc release of this classic series. And this coming holiday season, they are going to happily receive it!!!!!

This is a must-buy for me. I have been re-watching the series in HD on Xfinity On Demand and it looks fantastic.

Already own the Season 1 and Season 6/Season 6.5 BDs, and will still be re-dipping on this one for sure, no question whatsoever -- but will those seasons be getting brand-new transfers for this boxed set? They came out back in 2007, and HBO could almost certainly get a decent image-upgrade seven years later.

Hear, hear, Josh, so do I!!!!! Here is hoping that new transfers do, indeed, come to pass--especially given all that is presently going on regarding 4K processing, b/w the age of those S6 BD's, indeed. And since The Sopranos S1 BD DID come with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, perhaps that is one thing we can at least look forward to regarding the sound.

If the other seasons are from the "new" transfer, I assume that S1 and S6 should be also.

Despite the spotty PQ review from Harris, I plan to pull the trigger on Tony at Best Buy for $159 unless someone snitches with info on a better upcoming deal. Grazie!

Finally re-visiting this, binge-style, for the holidays. My first reaction seeing it again after some time is, how obviously the show was a black comedy and must have always intended to be as such. I haven't read that much about this angle, though I'm sure there's a lot out there about it, but every scene is full of choice nuggets of great comic moments based on the particular character and his or her choice dialogue. It's like David Chase had absorbed every wise guy book or film or real life experience and was spitting it back out through his own filter of the comic absurdity of so much of it. Very few shows continue to reveal and reward more and more with each viewing, but it's so great that we have this still living and breathing document that's like a Raymond Carver collection of shorts at the wise guy world.

I rewatched the series when this set came out and even though I've seen it multiple times throughout the years and knew it was a great show, I walked away even more impressed. It's truly a great TV show.

I will have to pick this Blu-ray set up at some point...yes, The Sopranos had a lot of dark comedic overtones...we were laughing, albeit with a sense of dread and foreboding, at the richly drawn characters and satirical plot development...the whole tragic story arc, the violence just hit like a sledgehammer, especially so when attended by realistic cruelty...an American television epic, even considering the abrupt and disappointing finale...I shrugged it off at the time as a precursor to at least one theatrical Sopranos movie...too bad, considering James Gandolfini's eventual and premature passing and the apparent fact that Chase, et al, never intended to do one anyway...

If I had written a finale, I would have had Bobby Baccala, or even better, the much abused restauranteur (can't remember his name) do the dust off on Tony Soprano...Karma, Jersey style...and the parting rituals at Satriale's butcher shop...ha, ha...all while the FBI caught everything on surveillance...and not intervening as wiretap guys were asleep or sending out for pizza...

Like many fans, I fondly remember the "Pine Barrens" episode and the crew's return to the old country...ha, ha...
