Since the holiday is today and there doesn't seem to be news running at The Bits, DVDFile, or anywhere much else, then I'm pleased to pass on this information on it's announce date, which is today. One of my favorite films of all time...and one of the few remaining storebought VHS tapes I still own...is coming to DVD on 11/11/03!

Unfortunately, I don't consider the sequel to be anywhere near the ballpark that the original movie was in.

Worse, I don't consider the SRP of $24.95 for each of these DVDs to really be "priced to own" in today's market. That means street prices of around $19.99...and let's face it, the sequel isn't worth half that amount.

However, since I love the first film so much, I'll probably spring for it on street date. I'm sure some of you Hayley fans will, also. A true classic!

This is fantastic news! I used to stay up and watch this on the "Million Dollar Movie" with my sister when we were kids. It's her all time favorite movie, and it's one of mine as well. I even like the sequel, but more for it's "camp" value. It can't hold a candle to the extremely underated original.

I just hope they are anamorphic, but I'd probably buy these two no matter what.

assuming they are OAR, I'll buy one and possibly both of these.

Columbia hasn't made aspect ratio info available yet, so I don't know if these will be in OAR. I am making a BIG assumption here - esp. since it's Columbia, who's MARred titles in the past (still waiting on an OAR version of "Perfect") - but I think these will end up being anamorphic.

    I hope so, anyway! [IMG]

Excellent!! I've been waiting for this a long time!
(I wish they gave Hayley as big a cover shot though!)
    Thanks for the info!

A great buy if it will be in OAR. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

What puzzles me, although I'm certainly not complaining in this case, is where they come up with these titles. Has this been requested a lot? Ok, in comparison to other titles by Columbia too?

There must/should be some kind of logic here, but it escapes me.

    Help?

Saw this many times theatrically, as a kid, and on TV in the years since.

Always been a big fan of Hayley Mills, particularly in her smart-mouthed teen-ager roles, beginning with THE CHALK GARDEN, where she is very well matched with Deborah Kerr.

Shit! Bad news from DVDFile this morning:

I don't know where DVDFile got this info from, though, since I still don't see technical information posted to Columbia's password-protected info system, nor do I see a press release or pictures of the back of the box anywhere. Perhaps that site got pushed some info that I'm not privy to, since I'm a TV-on-DVD specialist. On the other hand, they've made mistakes on this sort of thing more than once or twice in the past (hey, noone's perfect, least of all me) so I would REALLY like to verify that info from the source before getting upset.

After all, this is a 1966 film released to theaters, and it should have a Widescreen OAR. If a fullscreen release is all that comes out, I sure ain't buying it at any price! [IMG]

Great news if they are OAR! I love both films, but it's the sequel that is making my heat do palpitations right now, it was one of my favorite films as a kid and I wasn't expecting to see it on DVD anytime soon (only the first film was released on Laser, which I have). I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the OAR.

Crap! Were these films 2:35:1? If so, the DVD's will be complete disasters.

    Very disappointed.[IMG]

Larry, these were not filmed in a widescreen process so the widest the OAR would be 1.85:1.

When Turner Classic Movies showed "Trouble With Angels" last year, it was shown in widescreen. One of the things that was interesting about it was that the music soundtrack was a different mix from the original. The music was the mix from the soundtrack album instead of the original mix used in the film. Even though it sounded crisper and clearer, I prefer the original mixes. I hope we get a great transfer of the original. It's a great film and deserves only the best.

And her debut TIGER BAY with dad John Mills.

(And I agree, "Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows" isn't worth the, um, trouble . . .)

Tiger Bay must need a re-release. It isn't around on the net anywhere?

As long as we're putting bids in, add one, ok start one, for The Truth About Spring.

You know what you're always thinking about those people who don't check before they open their big mouths. . . .

    Thanks Jay, I stand corrected.

Well, in reference to some other film the star made before this, I can find something to be glad about...

By not buying these discs, I shall save money! [IMG]
