One thing that's always bothered me about the Wega's is the 16x9 mode can only do 1.85:1 and up. It can not properly frame under 1.85:1, like 1.66:1 for example.
Has Sony ever addressed this issue and fixed it on their new sets?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I'll take the lack of replies as a "NO". [IMG]

Wait a second...I don't think that makes sense. The 16:9 mode simulates a 16:9 TV, not a particular content aspect ratio (which could range from 1.33:1 to 2.35:1). So, when set to 16:9 mode it should just act like a widescreen TV.

The squeeze mode on WEGA TVs is not 1.77:1 (16:9), but is 1.85:1, due to the fact that it crops the top and bottom of the image. 2.35:1 and up films are fine, but 1.66 and 1.77 films suffer.

Um. Well, I am an idiot. I am currently looking at TVs and have been confused about this whole 16:9 squeeze. If the television isn't widescreen size, won't you lose some picture on the sides when it does its "squeeze"? I would appreciate any explanation.

It draws all the lines from the screen to a smaller 16:9 screen the black bars are not drawn so you get a better image. At lest I thank that is how it works.[IMG]
