I am looking for an inexpensive DVD player and find Samsungs for $130. all over the place. I remember the (709 I think) had many problems but have not heard if the newer units are now good players.
Other cheap players are Apex, Oritron, Sylvania, GE, all of which do not impress me at all, but if the samsung players are now good players I might consider.

The Samsung 711 is the worst player I have ever tested, bar none.
It was purchased only 7 months ago.
I wouldn't really recommend an Apex overall, but I'd take the Apex over the Samsung 711 anyday. I'm told the 611 was just as bad, but maybe their new models this year are better.

I would say that samsung has eliminated a lot of their past problems but they are still buggy in my book. I was using my 709 for a long time until it died on me. I then tried both the M301 (I tried 2 of them) and the N501. Both of them had skipping/tracking issues if they got hot. I would not recommend samsungs nor apex.

You can get a Pioneer 341 for around $149 and a Toshiba 1700 for $159. I would go for one of those instead of Samsung.

Thanks for your replies, I half way thought that was the replies I would get. [IMG] I sure wish they would solve thier problems. I have two Samsung VCR's that have been bullet proof.
