A coleague here bid for and won an R1 Mummy Returns on ebay. He brought it into work for me to check out and it had a DTS banner.
"But R1 didn't get DTS" says I.
"Oh." says he.
Upon closer inspection, it appears he's got a region free NTSC version. Was this ever a legit release? If so, does anyone know how the quality compares?
I've never ebayed myself because of the potential for this sort of grief. What would you do in this situation?

It's a bootleg.. The studios *very* rarely release region-free DVDs. The only companies that release region free DVDs I know of are Criterion, Anchor Bay and Tartan in the UK, and they have their movies licensed to them, they are not studios.
Ask your friend to complain about this, he's been ripped off.
