I've been looking for this since its release date, with no luck. I've seen Cube 2 around at a couple of places, but never the original.

Wal-Mart had carried the first group of Signature Series titles (Monster's Ball, etc.), but nothing on the recent group.

Is it some kind of rights issue causing this? I think that's why we never got Buckaroo Banzai, right? Does Lion's Gate not have the right to distribute Cube in Canada?

Thanks for any info...

Alliance Atlantis owns the rights to Cube in Canada, as Cube was produced independently unlike Cube 2: Hypercube which was produced by Lions Gate.

In the US, Trimark (now Lions Gate) owns the rights to the first film.

Thanks, Matthew. Good ol' Alliance-Atlantis strikes again. I should have known. Anytime a release doesn't come out on the same day in Canada as it does in the U.S., Alliance-Atlantis involvement should be my first assumption!

Tom... that's really strange, I thought that Amazon.ca was someplace I had checked... it is one of my usuals. But I guess not! :b Price looks reasonable... sold.

Plus now I get to pick out another DVD to qualify for Super Saver Shipping!!

Thanks to all who replied.

^ don't blame Alliance for this. They've always had the right to this movie. It's not like they're purposely preventing you from getting this new version...although I do agree their original release is pretty bad (it was released in 1999, what do you expect)...but I at least it's not that hard to obtain the Signature Series version online. :)

I ended up ebaying the Sig. Series for Cube, as well as the sequel (don't bother-not NEAR as good). Nice to finally have a WS version of the movie at least. Doesn't hurt as much to import now that the dollar is a little better. No retail sightings, but you should be able to get it for less than $18 US online.
