I have to agree with Matt on this one. Like many of his later films, this one isn't very good. Starting around the mid 60's, most of his later films just didn't seem quite as enjoyable as many of his earlier ones. Some exceptions like Girl Happy, Spinout and probably Speedway are ones I like myself. We do have Spinout on Blu Ray. Maybe the other couple will get released. Anyway, unless you are someone who has to have every Elvis movie ever made, this one is probably not one of those to rush out and buy. I like the majority, well at least over half of his films, but personally will pass on this one. Thanks again, Matt for another solid review.

Not a top Elvis film but still entertaining. I first seen this at the drive in as a kid , so maybe the nostalgia helps. But i don't think it's as bad you think it is. To each their own. I'll be picking this up.

This is not a great film (even by Elvis' standards), but I'm always amazed at how Colonel Tom Parker continued to fleece the studios.

Harum Scarum was the first film in another 3 picture deal with MGM, signed in December of 1964 (which also gave us Spinout and Double Trouble), where Elvis got $1,000 a week for 3 years, paid $750,000 for each film, and received 40% of the profits. Thanks to Viva Las Vegas and Kissin’ Cousins, MGM had a great year with Elvis, so why not make more? Parker got a two film contract from UA that month as well, and that was at $650,000 for each film (Frankie and Johnny and Clambake). The 1965 box office was still very respectable with Girl Happy (MGM), Tickle Me (AA), and an OK hold from the 1964 Christmas release Roustabout (Paramount), and with Harum Scarum rolling into release, MGM signed up for 4 more in January of 1966, bring it’s total to 6 upcoming films for MGM. For those 4: Speedway, Live A Little Love A Little, Stay Away Joe and Trouble With Girls, Elvis got $850,000 per film and 50% of the profits. Even as the box office was starting to slump, Parker got another film from Hal Wallis/Paramount, and by late 1967, only National General offered one film, and NBC offered a TV special and film, so they caught on......And yet, Parker somehow got James Aubrey, new at MGM, twice in 1969 and 1971 for two concert films.
