Just read the wonderful news that Shout Factory has picked up the DVD rights to the remaining seasons of Hart To Hart!

My apologies for the spelling error in the Topic Title (should be - Finally) - I do not know how to edit that - but hopefully someone can.

About time! I have three late 70s early 80s shows I want finished and this is one of them along with Love Boat and the twice stalled Fantasy Island.

I had high hopes for this one when Shout started picking up stalled Sony shows. Given its unusual success in syndication, it seemed like a relatively low risk candidate for decent sales among older series. The other good thing about Shout picking it up is that they have a much better track record with finishing series than Sony has, and they typically fast track the releases.

Well Shout does have its issues with stalled titles. "Fantasy Island" is also a Sony show they stalled out after two releases and I hope that "Hart To Hart" won't suffer the same fate. For now, I'll gladly take what we're getting.

You're right, of course. I only meant that Shout's record at finishing series is better than Sony's. (An admittedly low bar...)

You know, let me start by saying I complain as loudly as anyone when series I want aren't finished.

But I think the reality is that, especially those companies that don't do MOD, DVDs are a business. If they don't make a decent profit on a 1st or 2nd season, why would they continue to lose money on purpose??

ANd, YES, I would like to see 'Fantasy Island' completed.

That's true, Bret, but sometimes the issue isn't about loss but just about different profit margins. I don't believe Shout is going to make more money from Season 3 of Hart to Hart than Sony would have; they will probably make less money because of the licensing fee and their lower advertising capabilities. But they will still make money from it. Sony just doesn't care about the amount of money the title will likely yield, and Shout does care about that amount of money. In cases like this one, and there are many, I don't necessarily blame the studios for not continuing the title, but I do blame them for not readily making licensing deals with smaller companies that consider the effort worthwhile.

Well that's the difference between conglomerate and a company that specializes in this kind of product....

Very excited about this Season 3 news. Hart to Hart is among the stalled shows I've most wanted to see given another chance, and at this point I had written it off as a lost cause. Hopefully Shout will have realistic sales expectations and will feel comfortable enough to release Seasons 4 & 5 next year, finishing up the series.

I finished the No. 3 release recently, and I thought the video quality was excellent. I'm definitely looking forward to No. 4, and (like you) hoping for No. 5 soon.
