I am realy excited about this Tuesday when Warner is announcing Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone for dvd release.
I heard that it would be a two-disc set with an audio-commentary by Chris Columbus.
But I also hope that Warner does make use of a DTS track for this dvd as well.
It would be nice hearing Potter in DTS !!! [IMG]
What would you guys like to see on this dvd ?

Considering this is Warner, I will be happy with just anamorphic OAR.

An extended cut, via seamless branching would be nice. I haven't read the book, but in the movie, it seemed they were cramming a lot in there.

A non-EPK behind the scenes piece would be great as well.

I haven't even seen the film but I think I will pick this up sight unseen based on the books and most peoples reactions to it.

I thought this was a good movie, but have never read the books. Whenever I think about Harry Potter I always think about the plagerism thing I too will buy the DVD though and may consider reading the books soon.

I have not seen the press release yet, but I plan to on Tuesday. I can, however, make a couple of predictions about the eventual DVD without sticking my neck out too far...

The transfer will be properly framed at 2.35:1 and will be enhanced for 16:9, at least on one version.

There will not be a DTS soundtrack.

It will sell more copies than anything before it.

I'd say that Obi's predictions are pretty much correct. It will be a dual P&S/Widescreen release, supposedly in packaging similar to Fight Club. 2 discs, loaded with extras. I'm going to say there will be SOME deleted scenes, but not tons. Probably a non-EPK documentary as well, somewhere in the hour range (or several docs adding up to that)

Warner doesn't want to do DTS, they also don't want to do decent cases, and nothing we say seems to be able to change their minds. So I say deal with it, and buy the inevitable Japanese DTS version and go home happy

Chris Columbus has stated several times that some scenes featuring Peeves the Poltergeist that were cut from the film for pacing reasons will be on the DVD (although probably not reintegrated with the film).

There is an online Press junket for just

    the Press on Tuesday.

All of us also get an advance copy of the DVD

    to review.

I'll get a review up here as soon as possible.

I've read in a couple of places that there won't be any 'how the special effects were done' pieces, so that an element of 'magic' is preserved for the younger viewers. Given the usual accuracy of my reading material, this probably means that the second disc will be a three-hour long special on how the effects were done.

Thanx Ron that would be very nice [IMG]
About the Warner DTS debate I seem to remember that they
would think about putting DTS on a dvd-release on a case-to-case senario.
American Outlaws was DTS because the productioncompany wanted it but I also saw on dvdboxoffice.com that Ocean's Eleven 2001 would cary a DTS track as well.
Since there hasn't been a official press-release for that one either we will wait and see if it is true.
But since word has come out that Harry Potter will be a 2-disc set it could have DTS with one disc being the movie and the other being the extra's.
We will wait untill tuesday and see what kind of magical miracles will unfold before our eyes. [IMG]

Call me a stickler for details, but I want seamless branching.
I want to be able to watch Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. And all the rest of the changed language and graphics.

I may be sick for this, but I'm open to getting multiple editions of this title.

If "Philosopher's" is released in Canada, I'll likely get a version there.

If the original cut is released in the US - I'll get that.

If the extended cut is released in the US - I'll get that.

Too bad they don't release a multi-disc set that accomodates for that.

I want this film in the original Chris Columbus cut with Philosopher's title. Any features are cake.

Oh - Anamorphic widescreen only. DTS maybe? :>.

I too thought the effects in Harry Potter were poor at best. That troll and much of the Quiddich match reminded me a lot of the Scorpion King and other various effects in The Mummy Returns: half rendered bits of a CGI cartoons at low rez.

ILM has sunk to new lows to get cheap.

I won't even consider buying Harry Potter unless it is the full director's cut. I'll wait.

I'm with Leo-extras would be nice here, but the important thing is to get the author's intended version of the film-be it seamless branching or a separate Canadian release. I'd say that the latter would be more likely in this case.

Was it a heavy effects movie? No. Chris Columbus nor Warners I bet, wanted to spend 40-50 Million on the effects alone. Not everybody is George Lucas nor can they get a cut rate deal at ILM either. The Quidditch match was done much like the Pod Race in TPM all 3d CGI background. Not to mention thats what it reminds me off actually. Anyways it depends on the time given to ILM to do the effects as well as to develop if need be new software to create. I thought the great hall and its translucent roof was the best effect I've seen in years as well as the moving photographs. Simple maybe, but cool!

If they edited it properly for the cinema they won't need to do seemless branching for the philosopher/sorcerer scenes. Just do what Disney does a lot and use the DVD angle feature - surely Warner can manage to do that...?
I can't wait for the DVD, but I'm more anxious for book five! [IMG]
