No matter what you say, packaging is still part of the product you buy, so I expect a good packaging, and in the case of a series, a consistent packaging. It's not like I wont see HP3 because of the case, but maybe I wont buy it, that's all there is to it...
A friend of mine will be selling off the previous releases and buying the box set because of the packaging inconsistencies! I'm sure the studios love guys like him.
I can't say I'm 100% happy about the change myself, but it certainly won't affect my buying decision.
This is why God made custom cover art, scanners, and blank cases. All of my digipacks, snappers, etc have been replaced with blank keep cases (www.inetdvd.com) and coverart printed on a standard inkjet printer. Google is your friend...
Actually, I have already converted the LotR EE discs to 4-disc cases using custom art.... However, I love the cases they come in (I archive them, but do not store the discs in them - terrible hubs IMO)
I immediately shell the movie from the case and put it in a set of 500 disc binders, which are nicely labeled "Kids movies" "Sci-Fi" "TV-Series" "Drama" "Comedy"
Then just box up the cases and keep them in keeps in the shed.
Then again, I continuously lobby that time will come when cases go the way of CD Longboxes and we just get the disc in a standard CD case.
A bizarre choice by WB on this one. Is it really that hard to be consistent? Obviously i'll still buy it. I thought this one was far and away the best Harry Potter film yet (non reader opinion).
