Yet another useless "math" question [IMG]
In the french school system, this is how you divide:
a divided by b equals c would be performed like this:
    > a | b
    > -----
    > | c
In the US (I don't know about other english speaking countries)
    > c
    > ----
    > b | a
I came here for college so I didn't really have to deal with hand division, but for any kid who transition from one system to the other it must be confusing as hell!
Who the heck comes up with these conventions [IMG]

[EDIT] This didn't quite come out as I wanted it to (how to you insert spaces at the beginning of a line?) so I don't think my point is clear at all :b
    [EDIT] Finally got it right
    [EDIT] NOT! [IMG]

    a/b = c
    Simple!
oooh, I guess you're talking about the other way to write hand division.....
Probably the same guy who decided to write June 23, 2002 and not 23 June 2002 or the guy who decided to use 8.5"x11" sized paper rather than A4, etc. etc... [IMG]
