Warner has The Thing from another World lined up for a solo release according to WAC. A monster set could be the Black Scorpion, Giant Behemoth,

Hammer II could have Dracula 1972 AD, COF, HOD, and if they happen to license any more Hammer titles between now and next year

Ah yes, I forgot about that one. Those three will most likely comprise Vol 2 and, if we're lucky, we'll get a 4th one.

It seems that the WAC is indeed saving It Came From Another World as their own Halloween-themed blu-ray

Hot damn!

I hope the Harryhausen titles will have some extras. The Twilight Time releases have been spoiling the heck out of me. And I hope Warner's gets around to The Valley of Gwangi eventually.

Two Monster Collections That Reinvented Horror

First Time on Blu-ray

I am hoping the Special Effects Collection includes THEM! and The Thing from Another World

Yes! Would love to have both Them! and The Thing from Another World. The Thing from Another World, to me, is an example, like the original Night of the Living Dead, that in the hands of the right people, a really chilling film can be created without having to have a glitzy budget.

It's worth noting that the box set is simply titled Horror Collection, so Vol. 2 doesn't necessarily have to be limited to Hammer films.

No need to license them. They already own those titles.

All four of the "Special Effects" titles are up for individual pre-order on Amazon at list price of 19.98, Sure to head down to around $12-$13 on release if history holds up.

Glad WHV is still delivering when it comes to the singles alternative.
That's good, but I want every single title from the Special Effects box especially Mighty Joe Young and Them. These have been shown on Warner Instant in HD for a while so this release is not a surprise to me. Edit: I don't think Them ever played on Warner Instant, but I did watch those other three titles in HD on that service.

Thrilled to see WB putting out so much classic stuff on Bluray . I thought they would never get around to putting the Hammer stuff they have on Blu . I will be getting both these sets .

Does anyone know who currently owns the rights to Hammer's The Abominable Snowman from 1957? The Anchor Bay DVD of it is OOP and the prices are very high. With Hammer's announcement of a remake back in November 2013, I'm hoping that the original film gets re-released on DVD.

"Them!" recently aired in 1.85 HD on TCM,

but

"The Thing From Another World" also aired on TCM recently,

and it had been erroneously re-composed for 1.78

(looking cramped along with some heads cut off in wider shots).

Now I'm concerned about the future Blu-ray of the 1951 classic:

Will it be 1.37 or this awful thing that ran on TCM?

I agree. The only one of the 8 films that I don't care for is "Taste the Blood of Dracula," but the other Hammer Films are classics and among the best of Hammer (and movies in general). While "Son of Kong" is the weaker in the special effects collection , it's still a fun movie.

thinking a lot of the old Anchor Bay titles are now with Millennium/Hammer for release in the states, which had a company name change , hope to see them put out a couple more releases, I have sent them an e-mail; the only ones I don't see anything stateside from is Universal

I was able to see this from Netflix, but waited several months for it due to the waiting list - they must have been down to their last copy.. I really enjoyed it and would also buy a Blu-ray version.

Edit: I remembered this was released in region A Japan last year - anyone seen it?

StudioCanal owns this and other OOP Anchor titles of the same ilk. Anchor Bay doesn't seem to have the license anymore. Criterion won't release this. Lionsgate might, but the chances of them releasing is very low. Lionsgate still has StudioCanal films on MOD, but hasn't updated the list in 3 years.

Unless a major StudioCanal deal is made by a stateside company, R2 is the only sensible way to go

Some SDs have very good authoring, but "The Abominable Snowman" is not one of them. Tried watching it last year in my HT and had to stop watching...it was that bad...IMHO.

Would love to see it on BD if they do a tad of restoration or go back to the original elements. It's one of my favorites and holds a special place in my sci-fi/horror collection!
